Fourth Case, The Circular Casket 1809 - 1824

This casket has embossed silver as well as engravings, and has a fine silver snake around the rim of the lid.

There are many engravings celebrating the defeat of Napoleon, which is represented by engravings of the Dove of Peace flying over Europe and victory at Waterloo in 1815 under Wellington’s command.

Portraits and funeral monuments record the deaths of several members of the Royal Family.

Engravings show the trial in 1820 of Queen Caroline, estranged wife of George IV, and the famous visit of the monarch to Scotland. He is here depicted, along with his encourage, in kilt and checked socks for the visit.

The last engraving is of the Past Overseers receiving the Tobacco Box with all its appurtenances at their annual dinner.
