In this year all other events were insignificant in comparison with the Great War into which England felt herself bound to enter, to maintain the sanctity of the Treaties, the Rights of small nations, and the Liberties of Europe, and to defend that Empire which we have inherited from our Fathers, against the aggressive ambition of Germany.
The War has already proved itself the most terrible in History. But with the help of her Allies, by the valour of Her sons, and with the Blessing of Almighty God, England trusts to win victory for that cause on behalf of which she is prepared to make every sacrifice which the call of Duty may demand.
War was declared on the Third Day of August, 1914.
